Trying New Ideas

Sweets for the Sweet

In the past days I’ve been learning and growing in skills. I purchased books for myself and Jess, on decorating cookies and cupcakes mostly. These include making scratch cookies and cupcakes, as well as royal and buttercream icings.

I’ve found learning decorating cookies and cupcakes intriguing. I never had interest before, but lately I’ve wanted to learn how to do cupcake bouquets and other flower arrangements, as well as cute designs on flat cookies. My love is sewing, so this is way out of my league. In the past week or so I’ve been accumulating various piping tips to do all kinds of flowers, leaves, grass, etc, and cookie cutters for various ideas. Once I’m off my long stretch at work and back to regular schedule I fully intend on working with these and also showing Jess how to use these as well. This week I taught her how to make cut out sugar cookie dough from scratch, as well as red velvet cut out cookie dough.

My goal for this coming month is to make cookie decorating kits, complete with royal icing bags and sprinkles with a dozen blank Christmas cookies to decorate. I believe these would be a great treat box for the season, especially during the Christmas break when kids are home and need something to entertain themselves besides a screen, with an end result in a good snack. I can’t wait to get them launched and ready to go!

This is a long work week for me, with 6-12 hour shifts over 8 days, so baking and designing will be a bit delayed.

I hope you all have a great day, and a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
